April 28 is a day to, even more than usual, focus on workplace safety.
Each year, Workers Memorial Day takes place on April 28, as a reminder of the importance of workplace safety.
This year, the United States Department of Labor and its Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be putting on a live, online event, as well as local events. These will allow more people to understand the effects of workplace injuries and deaths and what can be done to prevent them.
One popular and successful strategy, when it comes to keeping people safe at work, is to hand out gifts and gear. These are items that will come in handy in the office, while traveling, at home, and beyond. And these are products that can be customized with a brand’s information. Some examples include safety gear like face masks, hard hats, goggles, and reflective clothing; tech gifts like key trackers, car chargers, flashlights, and travel adapters; safety incentives like tools and watches; and awards that reward those who promote safe practices.
“Workers Memorial Day allows us to remember those whose lives were claimed by their jobs, in too many instances, because required safety precautions were not taken to prevent tragedy,” Doug Parker, the assistant secretary for Occupational Safety and Health, said in a press release. “We must never underestimate the importance of ensuring OSHA requirements are met and followed as the law requires. As we are sadly reminded again, peoples’ lives depend on it.”
According to OSHA, 13 workers lose their lives each and every day in the U.S. However, this number is far lower than it was before the Occupational Safety and Health Act came about in 1970.
This number can be lowered further when people come together to remember those who have lost their lives and remember the importance of preventing injury/death in the workplace.
